For más a déeach, the competitive Call of Duty in España has experienced periods of glory, abrupt falls and long periods of silence.
From the first online tournaments and the Final Cups to the international leap, the arrival of the CDL and the subsequent competitive vacío, the national scene has resisted thanks to a community that never leftó believe.
The birth of a community
The originsígenes of the Spanish sceneñwave of Call of Duty, as we know it today in día, date back to año 2011, with the emergence of the Liga of Professional Video Games and the popularizationón of GameBattles, where a passionate community is consolidated.
The first contact of Spainña with the international competitionón is the classificationón of Pain Gaming to the CoD XP of 2011, after winning the Black Ops National Championship from FNAC. In Los Ángeles, and in the recently released Modern Warfare 3, Pain achieves a World Top 16.
This experience paves the way for the mítico Pain de sTaXx, which adds the first tournament of a Spanish teamñol at European level after winning the European Esports Event in Stockholm. Other teams, such as Giants and x6tence, stood out nationally and were preparing for the first LVP National Championship: the Final Cup of H2O.
This event was the first chapterítitle of a historic rivalryórich between Giants and Pain, where the giants prevailed to win their first Final Cup. The ésuccess of the first editionón gave way to a new Final Cup at the end of 2012, where was proclaimedó championón a surprise OverGaming.
The consolidationón
With the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, the scene is experiencing a great boom. SpainNEWS_PH_107__a is included in the international ecosystem, in theclassificationón to the first CoD Championship in history. Pain and Wizards compete for the Spanish plazañola in Germany, with victory for the team led by TojoR. Pain closeíon his international adventure with a Top16 in the world championship.
At the domestic leveléstico, Giants adds its second Final Cup, beating Karont3 in the Grand Final. LVP announces the first editionón of the División of Honor, with 10 national teams competing in a league format, concluding in the Final Cup 5, where Exilo superó a EVO in a final inédita.
The first blow
In 2014 the scene suffers its first blow. The change of pace that Call of Duty: Ghosts imposed demotivatedó on players, organizations and the audience. Even soí, the loyalty of a núcleo of players kept the flame alive.
Wizards disputes again the plaza española for the CoD Champs, now against Giants. The magicians surprisingly win the trip to Los Ángeles, where they achieve a Top24 in the world.
In this season SocialNAT is born, with a new proposal of online leagues and in-person finals, with two events in winter and spring. LVP deploys the Final Cup 6, with a new Giants championship, and doubles the bet on the scene with the first EuroMasters Cup, an international event with representatives of Spainña (Cerberus and Giants), France (Vitality) and United Kingdom (Epsilon).
The speed and spectacleáof oldño are revived with Advanced Warfare, ushering in the era of jetpacks. 34united becomes the first national championón, with its outstanding performanceño in the Final Cup 7.
For its part, Gamers2 and Spirit are positioned as the great representatives at the international level. They both competefor the plaza de Espanaña in the CoD Champs, tippingáthe balance in favor of G2. Both also participateén in Gfinity leagues and events. Gamers2 wins Final Cup 8 in a historic final against Deaka, while Spirit leads in SocialNAT events: The GGCup and the SN Master Finals.
The generational change
In the season of Black Ops 3, a new generationón of players in Spainña explodes. It is a season starring Giants: on the one hand, a roster of international caliber, made up of players like Lgend, MethodZ, TojoR, Sammy, EupHo, GameR, peLukaa and JaayZ; on the other, a very young team to compete at the national level, with JurNii, Lucky, Oney and Pabloskis.
A team híbridging both rosters won the Final Cup 9. From now oní in más, the international team of Giants representsó Spainña in the new CoD World League, participating in the División European pro, in face-to-face events such as ESWC, and qualifying the CWL Champs. For their part, the “Thunderkids” were champions of the Final Cup 10.
In August 2016 Team Heretics was born and presents the Thunderkids as its first Call of Duty roster. The heretics symbolically inherit Pain's position in the classic against Giants, and their first confrontations are not long in coming: Giants defeat their former academy in the finals of the GGCup and Madrid Gaming Experience, both organized by GAME Esports, successor to SocialNAT.
The start of Infinite Warfare is led by Heretics, winning the Fun & Serious invitational and the Final Cup 11. However, as time went by, new actors emerged: Movistar Riders achievedó the first classificationón of a Spanish teamñol to the group stage of a CWL Open (en Birmingham) and wonó the GAME Stadium Finals.
A surprising eMonkeyz assureóthe Finals of a renewed Orange Super League and a inédita CoD Cup; while GA Esports tookó the PlayStation League Opens in Gamergy and BGW.
Más than a rivalry
Ahead of the World War 2 season, the rivalry between Heretics and Giants reaches its most critical pointás ítico with the NEWS_PH_329__transfer of MethodZ, the most expensive of the Spanish esportsñols at the time, and with the ambitions of both teams to represent internationally, in a Spanish tridentñol that completes Movistar Riders.
Heretics emerges as the national benchmark, qualifying for the Championship Bracket in 4 of the 6 CWL Opens in which it participatedó (Atlanta, Birmingham, Seattle and Anaheim), two of them from the group stage, and finally for the CWL Champs, where they achieved a Top24.
At home, MAD Lions is the surprise campeón of the Finals of the Orange Super League, beating in the final Giants and with the early fallída of Heretics, in what was the úlast season of CoD on LVP. At the amateur level, GA Esports insists and wins the Gamergy, Gamepolis and MGW Opens.
Fight from tú to tú
Black Ops 4 represents the definitive season of the Spanish CoDñol. With the implementation of ón 5v5, the scene is revitalized with the emergence of new teams. The international trident of Heretics, Giants and Riders is solidified.
The heretics revive a flame that did not burnía since the Giants of BO3: they qualified for the Pro League in an agóunique úlast LCQ group match against G2. The international touch meantó a leap in quality for Heretics: Top8 in Fort Worth and Anaheim, a historic óTop6 in London, and Top10 in the league Playoffs. They closed the season with a Top16 at the Champs.
In the semi-professional circuit, Giants achieved historic ó fourth and third places in the London and Anaheim Opens, losing on both occasions to the Australians of Mindfreak.
¿Is it the end?
After the disappearanceón of the CoD in LVP, new organizers emerge such as Connect To Play (with two in-person events), and amateur teams begin to look to Europe: Pushing, with a new generationón of players, wins the SFCO European Challenger in France, while Black Claw seals the three-time EEG championship in Malta.
All this momentum comes to a screeching halt with the Modern Warfare season. In 2019, the birth of the CDL, the CoD franchise league, was announced. Heretics fails to secure one of the twelve franchises, and the Spanish sceneñola falls into a voidío. Lucky and MettalZ enter Toronto Ultra, JurNii a Atlanta FaZe and the roster of The Atlas Lions represents Spainña in the Opens of Challengers Minnesota and París, before the pandemic migrated the entire circuit to online competitionón.
In the darkness of Modern Warfare, Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard, new organizers emerge like NGL and Secret Tournament, the first with two regular seasons, with Paragon FTW and Mav3ricks as champions. National rosters such as RAMS, Team WaR, Los Pepes, Mav3ricks, ROKKR Academy and AYM refused to let the scene die, carrying the flag of Spainñat mostás high in Challenger Cups, Elites and Opens.
In Modern Warfare 2, international rosters began to emerge, mainly with Spanish and Britisháplayers (such as Elevate and Deviance), who had relative ésuccess. The dreamño of establishing a Spanish teamñol in CoD's most important leagueía fadedía with each passing season.
Modern Warfare 3, a new beginning
Heretics reaches agreement with Misfits to operate Florida Mutineers franchise, renamedáusing it as MiamiHeretics and redesignedñáusing it under a Spanish-speaking espíritu, bringing together the historically rich 2019 roster. After a disappointing first two Majors, they stood out with a Top6 in Major 3, Top8 in Major 4 and Top6 in Champs.
At the Challengers level, FIVE Media Clan was the main Spanish representativeñol, with a Top6 in Boston, a third place in Miami and a Top6 in the Global Finals.
A first season of ups and downs for Heretics gave way to a second season of consolidation, of fighting side by side with the best. They achieved a third place in the Majors of Madrid and Dallas, and a fourth place in the Major of Miami, in the Champs and at EWC. In Spainña, the realizationón of LoD Valencia is the initial kické for the foundationón of the Federación SpainñCall of Duty wave.
FECOD, the new era
The community, dormant for yearsños, has come back together: players, commentators and creators have reorganized to return the país its place on the competitive map. Online tournaments are back with a vengeance, and the competitive spirit of old LANs beats again.
It is no coincidence: it is 14 yearsños of a community that has decided to rebuild itself from the bases, with identity, work and pride, adapted to new times, more mature, more_NEWS_PH_551__s professional, but just as passionate.
